Two separate things share this name. The 1995 series and End of Evangelion are one work: the series' final two episodes are an interior, budget-starved abstraction, and End of Evangelion is the externally-plotted version of the same ending. Watch the series through episode 26, then the film. The four Rebuild films are a retelling that becomes something else entirely by the third — they are not sequels and not a substitute for a first watch, so they sit below as a second pass. Start there only if a 1995 television budget is genuinely a barrier for you.
