Some franchises are genuinely hard to start. Gundam has run for over forty years across unconnected timelines, Fate opens with a prequel, and Monogatari was broadcast out of order. Long-running shonen series pad the gaps with episodes that never happened in the manga.

Every franchise here is laid out entry by entry — series, films, OVAs and specials — with the filler marked and, where we have it, the services that carry each entry. And when you finish something, what to watch next comes from people who watched it and said so, with the vote count shown, rather than from matching genre labels.
