Gintama Watch Order
The Gintama franchise runs to 14 entries — eight TV series, four films and two OVAs and specials — spanning 2006 to 2026, 375 episodes in all. The order below is a recommended viewing order rather than broadcast order — the reasoning is set out directly beneath. Filler turns up in two of them, the heaviest being Gintama at 10.9%.

Why this order
Release order is correct for Gintama. The problem is that the titles do not tell you what release order is — the series was renamed almost every time it came back, and the punctuation is load-bearing. "Gintama" is the 201-episode original. "Gintama'" with an apostrophe is the second season. "Gintama°" with a degree sign is the third. "Gintama." with a full stop is the fourth and final run, split across three separately-titled arcs. Nobody could guess that, which is why this page numbers them for you.
Two real forks. The first sixty or so episodes are mostly standalone comedy and are widely described as the weakest stretch; a great many people bounce off there and are told afterwards that they quit before it starts. It does get dramatically better, and the usual advice is to give it until the Benizakura arc around episode 58. If you would rather not, that arc is also the 2010 film — Gintama: The Movie — which recuts it with better animation, and it is a legitimate way to sample what the series becomes.
The second is that The Final Chapter: Be Forever Yorozuya (2013) is not the ending, despite the name. THE VERY FINAL (2021) is. Watch the 2013 film in its release position and do not treat it as a conclusion.
Skip nothing else and you will be fine. The specials are Jump Festa shorts and recap compilations.
